Ian Johnston: The Life and Times of G

This four-screen video installation features the protagonist G, whose journey is told through vignettes both “epic and mundane.” G is embodied by two dancers, each of whom represent different hemispheres of the brain—what the philosopher Ursula Franklin characterizes as “holistic and prescriptive technologies”: the former referring to processes that can be controlled by the individual, the latter manifesting in conformity and orthodoxy. Backgrounding this neuro pas de deux are panoramas of natural and industrial landscapes.
