Cheryl L’hirondelle: Where the Voice Touches (((Acts, Utterances, Transmissions for Freedom)))
Walter Phillips Gallery, Banff, AB - To Jun 21
Rhythmic chanting, fabricated foam rocks, a tent lit from within and a dancing silhouette are but a few elements found in works by multidisciplinary artist and singersongwriter Cheryl L’Hirondelle. The exhibition’s title references L’Hirondelle’s ongoing interest in echolocation—a form of wayfinding through listening and responding to place. Showcasing decades of work across sound, visual art, performance and digital media, this comprehensive exhibition reflects a practice grounded in nēhiyawēwin (Cree language) and nēhiyawin (Cree worldview). banffcentre.ca
