I Am My Mother’s Daughter: Farheen Haq
The Reach Gallery Museum, Abbotsford, BC - To Dec 21
Farheen Haq’s survey exhibition of multimedia works from the mid-2000s to the present combines elements of text, performance, photography, video, sculpture and installation. The title pays tribute to her mother, who arrived in Ontario’s Niagara region (Haudenosaunee territory) from Pakistan to enter into an arranged marriage. Haq reflects on herself as the child of that union, and as a mother herself. Through a process of what Haq calls “inner housekeeping,” she reframes her mother’s experience as an alternative model of feminism.
