Fulgencio Lazo | Tejiendo Historias | Weaving Stories
ArtX Contemporary, Seattle, WA - To Nov 16
Celebrated painter and sculptor Fulgencio Lazo’s current body of work explores the textile traditions of Oaxaca’s Zapotec people. For over 2,000 years, weaving and its material sources have provided the medium by which Zapotec culture is passed on. While Lazo’s works often carry representations of traditional woven forms, they are equally focused on the machinery that assists in the making of thread and its storage, as evidenced in paintings like La Abuela Tejedora [The Grandmother Weaver] 2024, with its spinning wheels and spools.
