Fire: Creation and Destruction

Presented in partnership with the Sculptors’ Society of BC, this group exhibition explores fire as both a maker and a taker—from Suzy Birstein’s kiln-made candle flame to Gennadiy Zhukov’s self-explanatory Icarus (2024) to works where fire is used in controlled or complementary ways. In Aaron Rice’s installation Fire, Heart, Spirit (2024), the burning of sage is elevated to a spiritual practice. For Annie Ross, uncontrolled fires disrupt the natural patterns of animal life.
