UNINVITED: CANADIAN WOMEN ARTISTS IN THE MODERN MOMENT is the extravagantly large catalogue to the eponymous exhibition, organized and circulated by the McMichael Canadian Art Collection. The publication stands on its own as a fascinating survey of Canadian women artists, from both settler and Indigenous backgrounds, active in the interwar years. Peers of the Group of Seven but never members (thus the “Uninvited” of the title), they forged their own way, despite society’s entrenched sexism.
