Takao Tanabe: Life & Work

Takao Tanabe: Life & Work, written by art historian Ian Thom, traces the remarkable life and career of one of Canada’s most esteemed senior artists. Overcoming poverty and hardship, including internment in the BC Interior during World War II, Tanabe went on to study art in Winnipeg, New York, London and Tokyo—and to establish himself as a formidable painter and printmaker. His work has evolved from Abstract Expressionism and hard-edge abstraction through sweeping Prairie landscapes to the realistic depictions of misty West Coast shores, islands and waterways for which he is best known.
