Stan Douglas: 2011 ≠ 1848
The catalogue to this internationally acclaimed artist’s recent exhibitions at the 2022 Venice Biennale and The Polygon Gallery in North Vancouver. The exhibitions featured Douglas’ large-scale, digitally composited photographs restaging protests and riots in Tunis, London, New York and Vancouver in 2011, along with a two-channel video installation of Grime and Mahraganat rappers in London and Cairo. The publication includes behind-the-scenes shots taken during the production and editing of these works, together with an introduction by Reid Shier and probing essays by Ma’an Abu Taleb, Erika Balsom, Samir Gandesha and George E. Lewis.
