Relations: Diaspora and Painting

RELATIONS: DIASPORA AND PAINTING is the catalogue to the group exhibition organized by the PHI Foundation for Contemporary Art, Montreal, and on view at the Esker Foundation, Calgary, to Nov 27. Both the exhibition and catalogue explore the diasporic condition through the work of the 27 artists, including Frank Bowling, Bharti Kher, Julie Mehretu, Ed Pien and Yoko Ono. Diasporic identity, writes PHI curator Cheryl Sim, may produce “an ability to traverse and navigate multiple cultural terrains simultaneously.” In English and French, with essays by writers, artists, curators and art historians who are as culturally diverse as the artists they profile.
