Jin-me Yoon: About Time

JIN-ME YOON: ABOUT TIME is the catalogue to this esteemed artist’s solo exhibition at the Vancouver Art Gallery (to March 5). Surveying Yoon’s significant artworks of the past decade, including dramatically integrated photography, video and installation, About Time manages to be both subtle and spectacular, contemplative and declarative. Among its themes are the Korean diasporic experience as it is enacted upon the shifting sands of colonialism, imperialism, climate change, the occupation of unceded Indigenous lands – and the dance of connection between people and place. Curator Diana Freundl writes that Yoon’s work “is undergirded by an examining of our position in the world as it is reflected in and shaped by ideas of history and memory, land and ocean.” Co-published by the Vancouver Art Gallery and Hirmer Publishers.
