Min Joyce Abraham: Spirit of Spring

Based on traditional Chinese techniques, Min Joyce Abraham’s ink-and-watercolour works seek not a realistic representation of her birds and flowers but an ineffable essence, a condition that extends beyond the subject to the interior life of the viewer. To make her paintings, Abraham begins with colour, moving it about her surfaces with equal parts intention and intuition, only later using black ink to outline the elements and give them shape.
