Opening Apr 11 One Hundred Artists Deep. Eight local artists were invited to create new work in response to pieces by founders Bill Reid, Jack Shadbolt, and Gordon Smith, from the gallery’s Permanent Collection. Each left a lasting legacy through their art and commitment to arts education. Over their lifetimes, they taught and mentored thousands, and their ideas continue to circulate through new generations of artists. Curated by Andrea Valentine-Lewis, the participating artists were chosen for the strength and diversity of their practices and were given full freedom in how they responded. Historical works and contemporary pieces appear together, creating dialogue across time. The title reflects Smith’s belief that every artist stands “a hundred artists deep.”
