Roberta Lampert: Salt / Water
Waterstone Gallery, Portland, OR - Nov 6 – Dec 1
More art than craft, ceramicist Roberta Lampert’s latest objects explore new forms as she moves beyond functional pieces. She still uses salt firing and, being based on the north coast of Oregon, is preoccupied with coastal themes. Her fish address the mystery and magic of water. Lampert writes, “My depiction of ocean environments and coastal imagery has moved from the surface of my work to become the work.” Waterstone will host an evening of music and readings of works by former Oregon Poets Laureate on Nov 14. In honor of Lawson Inada, Lampert created a special piece memorializing the incarcerated US Japanese population during World War ll.
