Materials are at the fore of this exhibition, largely in recognition of wood’s relationship to all aspects of human life, not simply as an artist material. Haisla artist Lyle Wilson’s inventory includes red cedar, yellow cedar, yew, boxwood, wild crabapple, black walnut, Norway maple and abalone shell—some reclaimed from clear-cuts, some salvaged from beaches. Unforgotten offers an extensive selection of model poles, totem poles, panels, bowls, spoons, ladles, rattles, sculptures, soul catchers, frontlets and pendants.
