Hank Bull: A Message from the Forest

This exhibition, “conceived in the wilderness,” writes the gallery, “on the swiya territory of the shísháhl Nation [Sechelt, BC],” is the result of Hank Bull’s “many years in this region, watching and listening to the land,” and comprises three bodies of work. Natural Language depicts an alphabet whose 26 letters are shaped by the branches of cedar, maple, alder and yew trees. The Library is a photo series whose subject is wood sculpted into book shapes. The Seasons is a series of landscape paintings focused on the changing seasons.
