Fei Disbrow: The Familiar Unfamiliar

Fei Disbrow’s exhibition stems from an interest in out-of-the-way places and the miniature organisms that inhabit them. Here she investigates the cryptogram, an age-old plant that is flowerless, seedless and, like fungi, reproduces through spores. Disbrow photographs the organism and prints the image onto metal before cutting out a shape that belongs more to the artist’s intuition than the outline of the organism. The pieces are then bent to reflect the cryptogram’s undulating topology or mounted onto panels, as collage. westvancouverartmuseum.ca
