Backyard Wilderness: Burrows & Bungalows (Leila Armstrong)

Leighton Art Centre, Foothills, AB - Feb 1 – Apr 6

by Lissa Robinson

Wildlife intersects with rural, suburban and urban spaces in an exhibition by artist Leila Armstrong that explores the nature/culture divide. Using natural history methodologies and their connection to taxidermy, printmaking and collage, Armstrong creates artworks and interventions that challenge our perception that nature is detached from our daily lives. Inspired by personal encounters with wildlife and research into the critical relationship between urban ecologies and biodiversity, Armstrong invites viewers to reimagine nature as an integral part of the places where we work, play and make our homes.
