Newzones Gallery is pleased to announce a solo exhibition of new work by Toronto based photographer, Joshua Jensen-Nagle: "Sunsets and Fireworks"

Please join us Saturday, February 11th at 2pm for the exhibition opening and for a talk with artist Jensen-Nagle on his new body of work.

Known for his dreamy imagery and experimentation with photography as a means to capture feelings and express emotions, Jensen-Nagle’s new series, Sunsets and Fireworks, is a combination of techniques masterfully layered together. The inaugural images in this series were originally photographed in Canouan Island, the British Virgin Islands and Nosara, Costa Rica.

To make this body of work, Jensen-Nagle photographs inspirational sunsets, prints them large-scale in his Toronto studio, and then re-photographs them outside, setting off fireworks in their foreground, ultimately creating a celebratory effect and moments of underlying reflection.

Speaking on the new work, Jensen-Nagle states:

"Throughout the pandemic, as days, weeks and months passed, I, like many, found myself looking for pleasure in the simpler things. With my typical travel schedule no longer an option, I longed for inspiration in a world that seemed void. I took to appreciating the sunset each evening and found myself reflecting on nostalgic moments in my life. Spending childhood summers along the New Jersey shore, some of my happiest memories were watching the sun fall and lighting off fireworks with my father during holiday celebrations. This series is a reflection of my life. Sunsets and Fireworks commemorates my youth, celebrates life’s simple pleasures, and expresses the light they have brought into my life."

Joshua Jensen-Nagle has been featured in Photolife, National Post, Galleries West, and Canadian House and Home, Canadian Art, and Art in America. His artwork has been collected worldwide, including Cirque de Soleil, Ryerson University, First Energy Petroleum Ltd, MasterCard International and Target Corporation Canada.
