Tom Prochaska: Music for Ghosts

Tom Prochaska: Music for Ghosts is a monograph based on a 2023 exhibition at the Hallie Ford Museum of Art. It contains an essay by Jonathan Bucci that makes sense of Prochaska’s distinctive style. His thick impasto brushwork, his basic human forms and his newsprint papier-mâché sculptures are hard to read, but they contain narrative and character. “The figure is my point of reference,” he said, and he developed his technique over the years so his characters would show more emotions than fear of violence. Prochaska was also trained as a printer and the book makes much of his time at Atelier Mars, where he perfected his printing craft.
