The Place of Objects: The John David Lawrence Collection

Published in conjunction with the VAG’s exhibition Written in Clay: The John David Lawrence Collection (to Jan 4, 2026), this richly textured gathering of pictures and essays pays tribute to the downtown Vancouver musician, performer, activist and proprietor of DoDa Antiques. Those familiar with DoDa will know it as both a retail shop and a museum of carefully curated objects, most notably ceramics, but also Indigenous art, jewelry, folk art and photographic oddities that tell a story of Vancouver’s little-known post-war underground—a story of community, identity and discovery.
