Sea Of Islands: Exploring Objects, Stories, and Memories From Oceania.
The Museum of Anthropology at UBC holds Canada’s largest collection of objects from the islands of the Pacific Ocean. Each of these 3,500 objects carries a story, from its fashioning as material cultural artifact to its commodification as an item of commercial exchange. Curator Carol E. Mayer chronicles the journeys and stories of these objects, which range from regalia and jewelry to barkcloths and woven mats to carvings and canoes, as related by knowledge holders, academics and artists from across the Pacific region.
