Marika Swan ƛ̓ Upinup: A Circle Strong Enough To Carry Both Sides

Burnaby Art Gallery, Burnaby, BC - Nov 14, 2025 – Jan 25, 2026

by Michael Turner

Marika Swan ƛ̓upinup is a mother, artist and community arts organizer of mixed Tla-o-qui-aht, Scottish and Irish descent who explores Nuu-chah-nulth cosmology through woodblock relief printmaking. Sometimes her prints combine with carved objects, stencils and photography; other times they take on new forms, as they do as decals in the window of the Tofino Visitor Services building. Her BAG exhibition–her first solo gallery show–continues her exploration of “the nature of duality held in all things.” burnabyartgallery.ca
