Rajni Perera: Futures

Organized and circulated by the McMichael Canadian Art Collection, Futures features painting, sculpture and photography drawn from the artistic traditions of Rajni Perera’s native Sri Lanka. Included here are contemporary reimaginings of Indian miniature painting, medieval armour, and South Asian textiles organized around science fiction themes. The narrative focus centres on an eventual dystopic world where its subjects, through mutation, overcome crushing conditions through superhuman strength and resilience. An accompanying catalogue features an interview with the artist by guest curator Sarah Milroy.
