The common person is expected to wear plain clothes meant for labor and to blend in. The GMS Collective explores adornment as identity and celebrates our artists’ love of color, texture and responsiveness to material. These creations are the antithesis of the erasure many of our artists experience in our capitalistic society. Simple threads, notions and trims are alchemized through countless hours of experimentation. Discarded textiles are treated like jewels, meticulously assembled into garments and tapestries fit for royalty. Opening reception: Sep 3, 5:30-7:30pm at GMS Gallery.
