Dreamtime: The Paintings of Pierre Coupey

The title of this exhibition alludes to the Australian Aboriginal concept of creation, spirit and temporal and spatial return. Though dreamtime is foundational to Aboriginal cosmology, Pierre Coupey finds in its holism a method to direct and build his paintings. Unlike his earlier abstracted landscapes, often based on three horizontal bands of colour, these more recent works draw on a range of techniques, including taping, stencilling and overpainting.
