Bleached by the Sun: Perspectives On Chinatown《陽光下的褪色:關於華埠的觀點》

Nanaimo Art Gallery, Nanaimo, BC - To Mar 22

by Michael Turner

Conceived in response to the histories and legacies of Nanaimo’s Chinatowns, this exhibition takes its title from the city’s third Chinatown, as described in Denise Chong’s 1995 memoir The Concubine’s Children: Portrait of a Family. Though the title refers to Chong’s description, co-curators Jesse Birch and Imogene Lim extend the observation to account for the fading and incomplete nature of memories, historical documents and photographs. Artists are Fred Herzog, Kin Jung, Karen Tam, Betty Wong, Jackie Wong and Charlotte Zhang. nanaimoartgallery.ca
