Bill Laing: Looking Through

Calgary-based printmaker and educator Bill Laing has produced a series of etchings and constructions that challenge the ways in which we look and see. In his prints, landscape images are viewed through a lacy curtain of botanical forms, contrasting interior space with exterior space and alerting us to the ways culture creates an idea of nature. Similarly, Laing’s constructions juxtapose found elements, such as tree branches, with Plexiglas, asking us to consider again how we see the natural world.
