Acts of Conscience: Buster Simpson

Gould Gallery, University of Washington, Seattle, WA - To Nov 14

by Matthew Kangas

This University of Washington exhibition includes a tribute to the Magna Carta Yew present at its signing in 1215 and living on through cloned saplings. Another tree, repurposed as a table, descends from an elm present when George Washington summoned troops in Cambridge, MA, in 1775. Buster Simpson received the Public Art Award from Americans for the Arts as well as a residency at the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation. A recent Seattle work is Migration Stage, on Alaskan Way. be.uw.edu/spaces/gallery/
