Shaping Light: Sculptural Clay Lamps | VASS Workshop w/ Suzy King

Join instructor Suzy King for a creative, interdisciplinary workshop at the Vernon Arts Summer School where clay, textiles, and light come together. Participants will design and build a one-of-a-kind handmade table lamp, combining sculptural ceramic form with upcycled fabric elements.

Using handbuilding techniques such as slab and coil construction, you’ll create a functional yet expressive lamp base while exploring texture, surface design, and relief work. The workshop also covers practical considerations like light openings, balance, and wiring, along with a demonstration to support finishing your lamp at home.

On the final day, participants will create a unique lampshade using reclaimed frames and thrifted textiles, emphasizing creative reuse and material exploration.
