Opening Reception, Athena Cooper: Solo Exhibit

Athena Cooper's solo show tells the interabled love story between the artist and her able-bodied husband through a series of paintings highlighting the everyday moments that make up their life together–from the mundane to the life changing. Born with the rare genetic disorder Osteogenesis Imperfecta (aka “brittle bone disease”) and a wheelchair user since the age of six, Athena struggled with society’s ill-fitting narrative around disability that suggested finding a romantic partner would be an impossible task.
