TAKAO TANABE: PRINTMAKER
TAKAO TANABE: PRINTMAKER is the catalogue that accompanies the current exhibition at the Kelowna Art Gallery (to Oct 1). Essays by guest curator Ian Thom and the KAG’s Christine May survey the extraordinary print output of this acclaimed senior artist over 75 years. Show and catalogue reveal a range of styles, subjects and printmaking techniques while also charting Tanabe’s moves across Western Canada (with brief stints in New York) before he eventually settled on Vancouver Island. Special attention is paid to Tanabe’s collaborations with the gifted woodblock printmaker Masato Arikushi and the beautiful works they have created together.
