Parallels 02: North Valparaiso

PARALLELS 02: NORTH VALPARAISO introduces the little-known history of the Chilean community established on Vancouver’s North Shore in the late 1800s. Its text and archival photographs recall the men who jumped ship there, often escaping deplorable on-board conditions. While labouring as loggers, mill hands and fishers, many married Indigenous women, with long-lasting consequences for them and their children.
