THE WEAVING OF AAY AAY / k’uuga kiljuu t’aa guudadaal / walks lightly with a big heart, published by Haida Gwaii Museum Press, is as much a record of aay aay gidins’ remarkable work with basketry, textiles and jewelry as it is a celebration of weaving’s return. In the words of museum director T’aaw ’Yuwaans Nika Collison, “Forty years ago, Haida weavings were a rare site in the home, on the street or in a potlach—the direct result of colonization. Today, the Haida Nation has numerous talented weavers.”
