The Suitcase Project by Kayla Isomura
Museum of Vancouver, Vancouver, BC - To Nov 8
For this touring exhibition, Vancouver-based photojournalist Kayla Isomura asked more than 80 fourth- and fifth generation Japanese Canadians and Americans, “What would you pack if you were forcibly removed from your home today?” The impetus for this affecting portraiture exhibit is the 1942 forcible internment of 23,000 Japanese Canadians and over 100,000 Japanese Americans from the west coast to interior encampments after Imperial Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbor. In addition to the portraits, the exhibition features video interviews and contextual documents. museumofvancouver.ca
