Slug Eggs: Bree Apperley

Kamloops Art Gallery, Kamloops, BC - To May 2

by Michael Turner

While many artists assume 21st-century digital technologies to be neutral extensions of their bodies, it is refreshing to see those, particularly younger ones like Bree Apperley, take on such assumptions in their work. Her latest exhibition, an installation of repurposed objects and photographs, proposes an alternative reality critical of, in her words, “the torturous inanity of house-flipping grey paint and cyber trucks.” Like the Arte Povera movement of the 1960s, Apperley makes a case for the importance of human interaction over mindless mediation. kag.bc.ca
