Vancouver Art Gallery, Vancouver, BC - To Feb 22, 2026
This overdue career retrospective of the New Westminster, BC-born photographer comprises more than 300 photographs spanning five decades–from the early 1960s, when Tamio Wakayama first took up the camera as a civil rights “Freedom Rider” in the American South, to his later documentation of the Japanese Canadian community in Vancouver. Curated by artist Paul Wong, the exhibition includes Cindy Mochizuki’s 2024 documentary Between Pictures: The Lens of Tamio Wakayama and is accompanied
by an important catalogue. vanartgallery.bc.ca
