Abbas Akhavan: One Hundred Years

Morris and Helen Belkin Art Gallery, Vancouver, BC - To Dec 7

by Michael Turner

Comprising mostly new work, this exhibition features installation, sculpture and video that expand on Abbas Akhavan’s interest in domestic and institutional spaces as sites of hospitality and hostility. A particular interest lies in what occurs between the domestic and the institutional, be they spaces of captivity, fantasy, gaming or the kinds of conditioning that come through the interface of architecture and the human body. Aligned with these spatial imperatives is a temporal presence, that most jarring of behaviours: the halt. belkin.ubc.ca
