Joan Miró Lithographs and Gouaches

Galerie Orsay Paris-Seattle, Seattle, WA - Jul 3 – Aug 31

by Matthew Kangas

For his summer show, director Simon Lhopiteau has brought over from Paris 10 lithographs by Catalan Spanish artist Joan Miró i Ferrá (1893–1983). Long considered a forerunner of Surrealism, Miró is represented by prints of varying sizes and prices. With indisputable provenance and remarkable surprises, the lithographs seem more like freehand drawings. Trained as an art historian at the Sorbonne, Lhopiteau surrounds the masterworks with examples of other European artists, including a rare Dora Maar and five gouaches by Sonia Delaunay.
