Two multidisciplinary artists were honoured as Emerging Artists (Visual Arts) in 2024. Marjie Crop Eared Wolf (Káínai/Secwépemc) has a practice deeply rooted in Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) concepts and values, aiming to preserve and share cultural knowledge for future generations through mediums including video, installation, sculpture and photography. Edmonton-based Braxton Garneau works in painting, sculpture, printmaking and installation, exploring themes of family, diasporic experiences, and the impact of global economies. Grounded in material transformation and cultural history, his practice often merges Afro-Caribbean influences with classical European portraiture.
