Ongoing Connected, featuring Sherry Ying Ruden, highlights three northwest artists and how they distinctly portray relationships in their work. Ying Ruden’s mixed-media rice paper collages combine earth tones and organic shapes to stage what feels like overhead views or extreme magnifications of abstract worlds – as if someone has paused the action. Her blend of visual poetry and bold characterizations extends into her digital Typical Baskerville series, where she introduces us to a trove of contorted characters from a fictitious past that is comically relatable today. James M. Lilly builds and paints alter pieces honoring the fragile flora and fauna of the region. Don Wesley paints birds to tell stories of human life, love and loss.
