Apr 29-May 28 Pop Odyssey. Jay Cabalu’s artistic practice has evolved over the past decade as critique and correction to the failures of popular media’s attempts to depict his everyday reality. Sifting through the magazines and comic books he has been collecting since childhood, Jay cuts and rearranges mass media images from his collections to create work brimming with humour and horror, and inverting depictions of pleasure and luxury to portray a world overflowing with contradictions. Operated by the Burnaby Arts Council, the DLG features a 750 sq. ft exhibition and event space that hosts a wide variety of art forms by individual artists and cultural organizations from across the Greater Vancouver area.
