The idea for the TD Art Gallery Paint-In (formerly known as the Moss Street Paint-In) came into being one dreary fall day 28 years ago, with only 10 artists in attendance. Since then, this free, one-day event, organized by the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria (AGGV), has become a summertime ritual, with more than 150 juried artists showing off their art and their technique for the 35,000 or so art lovers who stream up and down Moss Street, from Fort Street all the way to Dallas Road and the ocean.
This is the art event of the season, an opportunity for residents and visitors to connect (or reconnect) with many of Victorias well-known artists and to meet emerging artists. For 14 blocks, reserved for strolling pedestrians that day, the public can experience a spectacular range of artistic activity, including printing press demonstrations, drawing lessons, live portraiture, potters at their wheels, and many forms of sculpting.
The AGGVs exhibits are free to the public during the Paint-In. The AGGV also hosts an after-party, complete with a refreshment garden and music provided by Groove Kitchen.
