Listening to Pages Already Written

Floating  in  a  slurry  of  acrid  decay  these  were  the  lucky  ones  that  got  away. If  it  had  not  been  for  the  structural  degradation  of  the  neglected  trusty hardware  store  bucket that  had  seen  and  been  privy  to  way  too  much  back  breaking  underappreciated  labor over  the  course  of  a  quarter  of  a  century  these  soldiers  of  fortune  would  have  been  content to  be  tossed  into  some  Portland  cement  at  the  end  of  a  very  long  day  graced  with  the  resolve that  at  some  moment  a  lunatic  with  a  sledgehammer  might  get  the  hare-brained  idea  that  those cast  off  concrete  chunks  dumped  by  the  side  of  the  road  might  make  a  swell  retention  pond french  drain  to  gather  what  little  rainwater  visits  us these  days. Just  patient  in  their  contentment  that  what  goes  around  usually  comes  back  around  and  might even  come  in  handy…
