Artist Fang Tong presents a talk accompanied by a slideshow of her old and new work. She discuss the theatrical aspect of her photography and touching upon their relationship to intercultural and interracial phenomena in real life.

Fang Tong’s Escape series continues her subjective and movie-narrative style with a little more romance and humour. Instead of staging the scenes, this time Fang Tong places herself, the traveler, in the real scenery, a real trip, but she intentionally made the scenes look surreal and staged. She is creating a temporary escape. Most people have flashes from the subconscious where they want to escape from their daily bonds and cares—not to run away, but to break free. We can call it dissociating by drifting away, creating an instantaneous sense of freedom, but then returning to realism with a better sense of harmony.
