another Landscape show & Marigold Santos: Surface Tether
Friday, February 15, 8:30-10:30pm
The Art Gallery of Alberta is excited to present two new exhibitions: another Landscape show and Marigold Santos: SURFACE TETHER running February 16, 2019 to July 1, 2019.
another Landscape show features works selected from the Art Gallery of Alberta’s landscape-laden permanent collection. The AGA’s four newly-appointed curators bring their unique points of view and practice to examine and question the dominance of landscape within the Art Gallery of Alberta’s collection. This exhibition also examines the proliferation of landscape in Canadian art and offers new ways to look at this omnipresent genre, and simultaneously shifts and critiques landscape’s place in Canadian art history and popular discourse.
another Landscape show has been organized by the Art Gallery of Alberta. Curated by Amery Calvelli, Franchesca Hebert-Spence, Lindsey Sharman and Jessie Ray Short.
Marigold Santos: Surface Tether will be presented simultaneously with another Landscape show. Through tattooing, painting and drawing this exhibition explores landscape. Marigold Santos’ landscapes are, however, not natural environments but emotional landscapes where thoughts, feelings and expectations play out. They are superficial surfaces tethered to deeper ideas about the self. The works are meant to reflect and project human experience on to the natural environment.
Marigold Santos: SURFACE TETHER The RBC New Works Gallery features new artworks by Alberta artists and continues the Art Gallery of Alberta’s tradition of supporting and promoting Alberta artists.
