About Janie Olsen
Janie Olsen, born and raised in Western Washington, currently has her home & studio in Monroe. Having painted all her life she says “it is a spiritual, driving force within me”.
Realizing art was going to be one of the main the focuses of her life, she headed to The Burnley School of Professional Art where she graduated with a degree in design and illustration.
Working as a graphic designer during the day for many years, she now paints full-time, with the occasional freelance illustration projects. Her head is filled with ideas and she is constantly sketching, painting and thinking of her next piece – like the Bob Dylan song says-“Someday, everything is gonna be smooth like a rhapsody, when I paint my masterpiece”.
Janie has work in several private collections, on-going representation with Schack Art Center of Everett WA, Matzke Fine Art Gallery & Sculpture Park of Camano Island WA, Curious Nest, Seattle WA, A Lot of Flowers, Bellingham WA. and Studio Beju, Duvall WA.
Every story tells a picture…My acrylic paintings in a Magical Realism style can be whimsical, mystical at times, or just simply there. Being a continual daydreamer, I am passionately attracted to fairy tales. The ideas of nature, romance, and chaos, and the notion of opposites, good vs.evil and ugly vs. beauty. There is always some sort of story (or hidden meaning) behind each painting in my mind. Sometimes it is difficult to put into words what the meaning of a piece is, but each painting is to speak for itself and have the viewer go away with his or her own thoughts about the piece. What the viewer thinks about my work is more important than the story she may give.
